We are pleased to announce the publication of a new scholarly monograph by Dr. Naciye Sağlam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies at Fırat University.
Title: Adapting the Novel for the Stage: Translation in Intermedial Circulation
Publisher: Palgrave Macmillan
Series: Adaptation in Theatre and Performance
Year: 2025
DOI: 10.1007/978-3-032-00922-7_2
This monograph offers an innovative model for analyzing stage adaptations of novels by combining intersemiotic translation with Pierre Bourdieu’s sociology of cultural production. Bringing together multimodal analysis, adaptation theory, and translation studies, the book investigates how literary works transform as they circulate across media and cultural fields.
Drawing on three detailed case studies—Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, A Clockwork Orange, and Frankenstein—the study examines both the semiotic processes and the sociological dynamics that shape the movement of narratives from page to stage. By introducing the concept of intermedial circulation, the book proposes a comprehensive framework that captures the cultural, symbolic, and intersemiotic dimensions of adaptation.
Published as part of Palgrave Macmillan’s prestigious Adaptation in Theatre and Performance series, this work contributes significantly to the interdisciplinary dialogue between Translation Studies, Adaptation Studies, Theatre Studies, and Semiotics.
We congratulate Dr. Sağlam on this important international publication and her contribution to the growing field of intermedial research.
